Jaimini sutra or Method in Astrology :
An ancient Indian astrologewr evolved his own method of prognostication basically
differentfrom other traditional methods. He has propounded his method in sutras
or formulas which are not so easy to follow  known as Jaimini Sutra. Naturally very
few modern Indian astrologers venture on this method of prognostication . Some
basic terms in the Jaimini system are explained here. :

Argala : The aspecting influence of a sign or its lord or of the planets in certain places are
known as Argalas. These Argalas may be benefic or malefic according to nature of the
influencing agency and act either as augmenting agent or obstructing agents.
Deity Planets ; jaimini Confers special honour on three planets on the basis of their positions
in the chart as Brahma, Maheshwara, and Rudra.
Brahma : When the lord of eighth from Atmakaraka is posited in eighth from its own house.
And the strongest of the lords of sixth , eighth and twelfth from either Ascendant or seventh
house whichever is stronger. It should occupy an odd sign and be in the visible half of the
Zodiac i.e. from Descendant to Ascendant.
Maheshwara: The lord of eighth house from the Ascendant  2. If the said lord is exalted or
in its own sign stronger of the lords of eighth and twelfth from Atmakaraka would become
Maheshwara, 3. When Rahu and Ketu join Atmakaraka or in eighth from him, the sixth
planet from Sun becomes Maheshwara. The strongest claimant is chosen for the sistinction.
Rudra: The stronger of the lords of eighth and second from the Ascendant becomes Rudra.
The other Planet if aspected by malefic, can also become nominal or supplemental Rudra.
Gulika: its longitude corresponds to the longitude of the Ascendant rising at the end of
Saturn’s Vela.
Karaka : Significators
Jaimini lays stress on Charakarakas or the changeable significators. They owe their position
by virtue of traversing a sign. The planet which has traversed highest degrees in a sign,
becomes Atmakaraka or the Prime lord or Prime significator. Other significators occupy
their positions according to their descending longitudes in a sign. Besides changeable
signification there are natural or fixed significators also which are the same as in traditional
system.
The charakarakas and sthira karaka or Fixed significators, are as following in
descending order of degrees they occupy in a sign :
1. Atmakaraka or  Prime Significator Sun.
2. Amatyakaraka or Sub Prime Significator  mercury.
3. Bhratrukaraka or Significator for Brother  Mars.
4. Matrukaraka or Significator for Mother  Moon.
5. Putrakaraka or Significator for Son  Jupiter.
6. Gnatikaraka or Significator for  Relations Mars
7. Darakaraka or Kalatrakaraka  or Significator for Wife  Venus.
8. Pitrakaraka or Significator for Father  also as the eighth significator and count  Rahu
as the eighth planet but according to some other , when two planets having the same
longitude are claimants for any one of the karaka Rahu steps in to fill the vacant
place. In case of more than on karaka being vacated, natural or fixed significators
take their place.
Lagna or Ascendant (Jaimini) :
1. Arudha lagna :  Arudha lagna also called pada lagna. Count as many signs from
the birth lord as the lord is removed from the Ascendant. The resultant sign is
Arudha or Pada Lagna.
2. Bhava lagna :  Divide  birth ghaties by 5 and take the integral quotient. Add one
to it and now count this number of places from Sun or Ascendant, as the
Ascendant is odd or even. The resultant sign is bhava lagna. The remainder
after dividing birth ghaties by 5 five, when reduced to degrees gives longitude of
the Bhava Lagna.
3. Ghatika Lagna : Divide birth ghaties by 12 . Reject the quotient and integral part
of the remained added by one and counted from the Ascendant gives Ghatika
Lagna. The fractional part reduced to degrees gives its longitude.
4. Hora Lagna : Divide the birth ghaties by 2.5 and the quotient plus one counted
from Sun or Ascendant, as the Ascendant is odd or even, represents the Hora
Lagna. The remainder reduced to degrees gives its longitude.
5. Nisheka Lagna : Nisheka Lagna  also called  Adhana Lagna. Jaimini does not
give any particular method for finding conception time from birth horoscope.
There is one from Parashara Add the distance from Sun to Mandi to the
distance from 1st  to 9th house. Count the Sun  backwards in the terms of signs.
It will represent the interval in the months between the time of birth and the time
of conception.
6. Upapada Lagna : Take twelfth house from the Ascendant. Find out its Pada
Lagna or Arudha lagna. This becomes Upapada Lagna.
7. Varnada Lagna : If Ascendant is in odd sign, count from Aries to Ascendant. If
Ascendant is in even sign, count from pisces toAscendant in the reverse order.
Repeat this process with hora lagna also. If both the ascendants are even or odd
, add the two sums, if one of them is odd and the  other even, then take their
difference.Expunge the  multiples of 12. You get a number as remainder. Count
from aries direct  if the Ascendant is odd or from pisces if it is even. The
resultant sign is varnada lagna.
The Varnada signs for other eleven signs can also be calculated similarly by
treating  those signs or Ascendant.
Periods :  Jaimini has mentioned following types of periods :
1. Chara dasha
2. Sthira or Fix dasha
3. Trikona dasha
4. Shula dasha
5. Rashi dasha
6. Kendra dasha
7. Varnada dasha
8. Udu dasha
9. Navamsa dasha
10. Brahma dasha
11. Yogardha dasha
12. Drig dasha

  2. of course like your web-site but you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth then again I’ll definitely come back again.

  3. I enjoy what you guys are usually up too. This type of clever work and coverage! Keep up the good works guys I’ve incorporated you guys to my own blogroll.
