Chandra :
According to Indian mythology  Chandra or Moon, the original Indian God of the Moon is a lovable God as well as a god of love . Pleasing to children as well as elders universally appealing to everyone whatever may be the religion of the onlooker . Sages and devotees invoke the Goddess Mother in Chandra and meditate for hours . He causes nightfall, strengthens the mind, purifies the blood and is considered as the mother figure that radiates nectar (Amrita ). His worship is beneficial for relief from all sorrows, helps in curing mental afflictions . etc . His cool rays radiate happiness around . He adores the head of Lord Shiva . Worshipping him on Mondays is said to be very effective in getting one’ s prayers answered . In the Puranic mythology, Moon is said to be the son of Rishi Atri and Anasuya . In the Zodiac he is the lord of Cancer and stays 2 1 /4 days in each Rashi completing a round of the 12 Rashis in 27 days . He is white in color and drives the moon chariot across the sky with ten white horses . He is also a god of fertility and is prayed to when a couple desires children . Later on he has been merged with the god Soma as he is also identified as a deity of the plant world . Chandra is know some more other names like, Shashi, Indu, Nishakara, Mriganka,Kumudpati, Soma etc.
