Surya :
surya-dev11
Surya is Sun or Dinkara , the radiant creator of the day and one of the most important of the celestial Vedic gods . He is the eternal source of food, light,
life, well being, and knowledge . He has an all encompassing vision and is considered to be the eyes of Varuna and Mitra during the day . He is son of the goddess Aditi and the most magnificent of the Adityas . He is the forerunner of the triple concept of God as creator, preserver and destroyer . The Sun’ s light can be on one hand, the life giving energy pervading the atmosphere with its warmth, dispelling darkness, infusing life in the cold seed nestling in the earth’ s bosom; and on the other hand, it can be the devastating rage which can burn everything to embers with its merciless heat . His presence wipes away bad dreams and nightmares, while evil spirits scurry into hiding to escape his wrath .
He is a handsome god, with a luminous body of golden hue with red gold eyes and flowing hair . The seven horses of his chariot of light represent the seven days of the week as he flashes across the sky like a golden poetry in motion . According to the Puranas he is described as a red man with three eyes and four arms ; two arms bear water lilies and he bestows blessings with the other two . He is seated on a red lotus, while golden rays of light surround him . Usha the goddess of dawn is described as his wife . Other names of Surya or sun are as, Ravi, dinkara, Aditya, Pushan, Savitra,, Arhapati, vivaswat, etc.
