Vishwakarma :
Vishwakarma means omnificient and symbolises the personification of the creative power . He is the great architect of the universe . He is the all seeing God, shaping the heaven and earth with his multiple arms . He is the father, generator and disposer, the one who assigns gods their names, and is beyond the comprehension of ordinary mortals . There is a legend which says that he offered all the worlds in a general sacrifice and ended up by sacrificing himself . He is not only the creator of gods but also the maker of their weapons (e . g . Agneyastra or fiery weapon).
The science of architecture and mechanics emanates from him . His daughter Sanjana was married to the Sun, but was unable to endure his effulgence . So her father cut away one eighth part of his brightness and used the same to make the discus of Vishnu, the trident of Shiva, the weapon of Kubera, the god of wealth, the lance of Kartikeya, the god of war and other weapons for gods . The image of Jagannath has also been made by him .
Vishwakarma dev known some more other names as, Karu (workman) , Takshaka (woodcutter) , Deva Vardhika (builder of Gods) , Sudhanwan (having a good bow).
